Online Commissioning (or Remote Commissioning) is the process where a Commissioner of Oaths administers an oath, affirmation, or solemn declaration to a client remotely using video conferencing technology.
Instead of a wet ink stamp, we use a secure Digital Signature and Seal. These digital documents are legally valid for use in Ontario courts, Service Ontario, and most government agencies.
It is critical to know which documents qualify for remote service.
Affidavits:
OSAP Affidavits (Sole Support Parent, Common Law).
Vehicle Transfer Affidavits: Sworn Statement for a Family Gift of a Used Motor Vehicle (Form 1157E).
Family Law Affidavits: Form 6B (Affidavit of Service) or Form 26B.
Statutory Declarations:
RIN Letters: For business vehicle registration.
Name Change Applications.
IMM 5409: Statutory Declaration of Common-Law Union (for Immigration).
Letters:
Visa Invitation Letters (If the receiving embassy accepts digital copies).
These documents generally require a physical “wet” signature or inspection:
Certified True Copies: We cannot certify a copy of a Passport or ID online because we cannot inspect the physical original.
Wills & Powers of Attorney: While theoretically possible, the remote rules for Wills are complex and risky. We strongly recommend our Mobile Notary service for these.
Negotiable Instruments: Promissory notes or loan agreements.

Yes. Under O. Reg. 431/20: Administering Oath or Declaration Remotely, documents commissioned remotely in Ontario have the same legal standing as those signed in person.
Yes. Service Ontario and the Ministry of Finance accept electronically signed and commissioned Sworn Statements for the Family Gift of a Used Motor Vehicle.
No. To certify a copy is "True," we must physically hold and inspect the original document to ensure it is not a forgery. This cannot be done over video. Please visit our Walk-In Locations for this service.
Generally, yes. While the Commissioner is in Ontario, it is best practice for the signer to also be in Ontario. If you are outside the province/country, please contact us first to check eligibility.
