Licensed legal professionals for all your witnessing needs. Whether you need to swear an affidavit for a court case in Ontario or verify a document for use internationally, Canada Notary has you covered.
Our team consists of fully licensed Notaries Public and Commissioners of Oaths appointed by the Ministry of the Attorney General. We ensure your documents are legally binding,
Many clients ask: “Do I need a Notary or a Commissioner?” The answer depends on where your document will be used.
Commissioner of Oaths: Can administer oaths, take affidavits, and receive statutory declarations for use within Ontario (or sometimes within Canada). They cannot verify “true copies” of documents.
Notary Public: Has all the powers of a Commissioner PLUS the authority to verify documents (Certified True Copies) for use internationally (outside Canada).
The Good News: All Canada Notary staff are licensed as both. No matter what you need, we have the authority to sign it.
We administer oaths and solemn affirmations for documents used locally:
Affidavits:
[Vehicle Transfer Affidavits]. Sworn Statement for a Family Gift of a Used Motor Vehicle as required by Service Ontario.
OSAP Affidavits: Sole Support Parent or Common-Law status declarations for student loans using official OSAP Forms.
Affidavit of Service / Divorce: Legal documents for family court proceedings.
Statutory Declarations:
Common Law Declaration: Proof of relationship for insurance or immigration.
Name Change Application: Declarations required by the Office of the Registrar General.
Construction Liens: CCDC 9A/9B Statutory Declarations for progress payments.
We certify documents for use outside of Canada:
[Consent to Travel Letters]: Recommended by the Government of Canada for children traveling abroad with one parent.
Visa Invitation Letters: For family visiting from overseas.
Certified True Copies: Verifying Passports, Degrees, and IDs for foreign applications.
International Real Estate: Powers of Attorney for buying/selling property in other countries (Requires Apostille Services).
We make swearing an oath simple and unintimidating.
You must present one piece of current, government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License, Passport, PR Card).
You must be physically present. We cannot commission a signature for someone who is not in the room.
You will be asked to formally swear (on a religious text) or affirm (a solemn promise) that the contents of your document are true.
You sign the document in our presence, and we affix our stamp and signature.
(Can’t make it to an office? We can administer oaths remotely via our Online Virtual Commissioning service.)
Yes. If you do not have a pre-written form, we offer Document Drafting Services. We can draft custom affidavits for lost passports, ownership proof, and more.
We can witness a Will and notarize the "Affidavit of Execution" required for probate. However, we do not provide legal advice on the content of the Will. We recommend our [Wills & Estate Planning] service for comprehensive support.
Our stamp itself is valid indefinitely (though limited to a 3-year term renewal by the Ministry). However, the content of your affidavit (e.g., financial status) may only be considered "current" by the requesting agency for a few months.
We handle the Hague Apostille and Embassy Legalization process for you.
We believe essential legal services should be affordable. Starting this Monday (Apr 20) and running through the end of the year, we’ve dropped our base rate at our Downtown Barrie office. Get your first document notarized for only $15.
